FRENDEE - Dating Mobile App (Chat Detail & Call Screen)
The messaging layer of the app: one-to-one chat with voice notes, delivery states, and native voice and video calling.
Challenges
Moving from texting to talking is where most dating conversations stall. Asking for a number feels like a commitment, and a call can feel like too big a jump from a few lines of text. The chat itself also had to stay readable in dark mode while carrying text, audio, timestamps, and read receipts at once.
Solutions
Call and video controls live in the chat header, so talking is one tap away and never requires a phone number. Voice notes act as the step in between, warmer than text but lighter than a call. The call screens strip back to the person and three controls, with video switching to a light background so the face is the brightest thing on screen. Ending a call is the only red in the whole product, so it can't be misread.
